Review of the Cyclone Mirage Ti,  Lightweight Titanium Wheelchair, by Mark follows (by email)

Cyclone Titanium Framed wheelchair

Hiya John!

Ok here my review of the Cyclone Mirage Ti

The Spec is:

  • Cyclone Mirage Ti

  • Ultra Lightweight using 3al 2.5v Titanium (Polished)

  • Chair Options adjustable backrest/footrest and axle

  • 1pr of Spinergy Spox Wheels

  • 1pr of Rigida 2" wide Off Road Wheels

  • Light up 4” front Castors

After living with it for a short time, I am getting used to the fact that there is very little framework to it (compared to my old suspension chair) it also feels smaller due to lack of said framework.

Now that I have fitted pushrims to the off-road wheels they are a lot better I also find that the 2" wide wheels are far better on pavements etc. than the Spinergy Spox (probably due to the fact that they have racing tyres on), But the Spox are far better on the smoother ground (I carry both sets around in the car at all times)

The chair itself is very comfortable especially on the legs as the hold my legs firmly.

If there is one downside to the new chair it would be that the Titanium does have a certain amount of flex and although in every other aspect this is a good thing, the castors 4" (I had 3" on my old chair which was steel frame) biggish stones/rocks seem to jam under the wheel and the flex of the frame doesn't seem to help.

(Exactly the same as happens to me on my Kuschall Champion Neo chair with similar chassis design! So its not the Titanium metal that causes this but the flex in the single tube frame. Burgerman - Site owner)

But this is a very minor downside and the only one I have come across, but the main thing for me seems to be the option of the wheels which make life easier depending where I am out and about at the time.

The chair is so light and the ultra lightweight wheels help as well, and all this rounds up to a well balanced chair, and as it is built to your own specification the comfort options are endless.

The total cost of the chair came to £2600 with all the extra’s listed above, (the base model chair starts at about£1700) and build time was about 6weeks, Cyclones service and support has been excellent at all times.

I have yet to try it out with my power trike, but the weight of the power trike fixing is probably heavier than the whole chair, and as my upper body strength is getting better, I am going to try and manage without the power trike (is does tend to make me a bit lazy anyway)

Mark
